The “Evolution of Inkjet” initiative, co-led by Holly Steedman, Business Development Director at IST INTECH, and Frazer Chesterman of FuturePrint, is set to take center stage at UV Days on June 3rd. This concise, high-impact conference segment aims to shed light on inkjet technology’s expanding role in industrial and graphics printing. Steedman emphasizes that inkjet is no longer confined to wide-format graphics or commercial printing but is rapidly evolving to meet the demands of industrial processes. This shift has necessitated a platform like UV Days to engage a broader audience and provide actionable insights into the technology’s past, present, and future.

The session will feature eight thought leaders and technologists, including machine OEMs, ink specialists, software developers, and application engineers. IST INTECH will debut its Smart UV Connect system, a plug-and-play solution designed to simplify UV integration with industrial print systems. Steedman hints that this is not a prototype but a functional system, representing the future of smart curing integration.

The conference will open with Didier Rousseau, CEO of Kelenn Technology, who will explore the diverse industrial applications of inkjet, from textiles to metal and packaging. Markus Stickel from MPRINT (Kurz Group) will follow, discussing application-focused print machinery and evolving customer demands. Dr. Simon Daplyn of Sun Chemical will delve into the chemistry of ink formulation, explaining how inks are tailored for new substrates and curing conditions. Jochen Christiaens of ImageXpert will address the critical role of precision measurement in optimizing inkjet performance. Additionally, sessions from Meteor Inkjet and Matthias Schieber of Marabu will focus on software control and digital transformation. The segment will conclude with a live demo and fireside chat featuring Achim Herzog of SwissQprint, a leader in precision engineering and wide-format printing.

Steedman highlights the diverse audience UV Days attracts, including engineers, chemists, equipment manufacturers, and end users, many of whom are at the beginning of their inkjet journey. This year’s event, themed “Mission to Zero,” reflects the industry’s commitment to reducing environmental impact. Steedman emphasizes that this mission includes both LED and arc lamp technologies, advocating for progress across the spectrum rather than a one-size-fits-all solution.

UV Days is not just a trade show but an immersive experience, featuring live technology demonstrations, guided factory tours, and evening networking events in a traditional German wine village atmosphere. Held at IST Metz’s headquarters in Nürtingen, the event offers free participation with shuttle services and local accommodation available. With over 1,000 attendees annually, UV Days balances intimacy with international reach, providing inspiration and insight for those in the print technology industry.

Steedman concludes that the “Evolution of Inkjet” conference is more than just a discussion about inkjet technology; it’s about adapting and leading in an ever-changing industry. For the future of industrial print, the journey to sustainability and innovation begins with knowledge—and perhaps, a glass of Riesling.
